A good question gets answered faster, and it helps the next person who searches
for the same problem. The template below is not bureaucracy — every line of it
is something a helper would otherwise have to ask you for.

The template

What I was trying to do
One sentence. The goal, not the mechanics.

What I did
The exact steps, in order. "I tapped Events, then Filter, then set the distance
to 5 miles."

What I expected to happen

What actually happened
Quote the exact message if there was one. "It did not work" is not a symptom.

Environment
Web or mobile; which browser or which phone; roughly when it happened, with a
timezone.

Things that help a lot

  • Paste text, not screenshots of text. Text is searchable, quotable and
readable by people using a screen reader.
  • Use a fenced code block for anything the formatter would mangle — a
stack trace, a log line, a URL with underscores. Three backticks, then your
text, then three backticks. You can also switch the whole post to plain text.
  • Say what you already tried. It stops three people suggesting it again.

Things to leave out

  • Your password, an API key, or a token. Ever.
  • Another member's name or contact details.
  • "Urgent" in the title. Everyone's is.

If it is account-specific

Billing, deletion requests, and anything involving your personal data are
better handled through the contact route in the app. A public topic is the
wrong place for an invoice number.
