What is the @name next to my display name?

That is your handle. It is assigned when you first visit the forum, it is
unique, and it never changes — even if you change your display name. It is
what a mention resolves to and what your profile URL uses.

Its purpose is to make impersonation visible: two members can share a display
name, but never a handle.
